The Assistant Director of Admissions is responsible for managing an assigned geographic admissions territory. The Assistant Director of Admissions travels to high schools, community-based organizations, and college fairs, reviews applications for first-year and transfer candidates, and leads projects related to outreach and recruitment efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate applications and provide recommendations for first-year and transfer admissions
Direct the recruitment of students from an assigned geographic region, leading outreach end engagement efforts and traveling to high schools, community-based organizations, recruitment events, and college fairs approximately 7-10 weeks annually
Manage a portfolio of admissions counselor projects, utilizing qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategic planning, decision-making, and implementation efforts
Lead group information sessions, conduct professional development workshops, and advise students, families, and counselors on Colby’s admissions and financial aid processes
Participate in implementing the general activities of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid
Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
The Assistant Director of Admissions has significant interaction with prospective students and their families, faculty, staff, and external constituents.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Several weeks of domestic travel and frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year. Heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) may be necessary.
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
Experience in admissions or with video production preferred
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Strong, self-motivated work ethic and a competitive spirit
Appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education and of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences
Must possess creative initiative, flexibility, and high energy
Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team, exercise discretion, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community

Willingness to travel by air is required at the time of hiring and throughout the term of employment
