<p>This Admissions Counselor position is critical to the Office of Admissions’ ability to meet the Provost’s National Merit Finalist and Honors enrollment targets. National Merit students have many college options and are highly recruited across the country. Identifying prospective National Merit students early in the recruitment cycle and building strong relationships with these students is imperative to meeting the University’s enrollment targets. Every point of contact with students must be as personalized and convenient as possible for the student. The personal nature of each National Merit student interaction and the need to ensure immediate response to any National Merit student inquiry.<br /><br /><strong>JOB DUTIES:</strong></p><ul><li>Articulate admissions policies and procedures to students, parents and counselors by participating in University undergraduate admission recruitment activities, including day/night programs, individual visits to secondary and post-secondary institutions, campus visit programs and other events as required.</li><li>Recruitment activities will involve travel, both in state and out of state and considerable public speaking.</li><li>Recruit and facilitate the enrollment of prospective National Merit and Honors undergraduate students to include planning and managing National Merit and Honors recruitment efforts and events.</li><li>Provide admissions counseling to prospective students and evaluate academic and other credentials for admissions decisions and counseling purposes.</li><li>Plan, participate and work with general and multicultural student recruitment outreach activities on and off campus.</li><li>Conduct information sessions on campus for prospective students and their parents and assist with the development and implementation of the office’s strategic plan to increase high achieving student presence on campus.</li><li>Counsel applicants, prospective students and parents concerning programs of study and admissions standards, policies, and procedures. </li><li>Develop and implement various admissions/recruitment projects</li></ul>
<p><strong>ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p><ul><li>BA/BS degree and at least two years of relevant work experience.</li><li>Must have a valid driver's license; must be able to travel locally and regionally for extended periods and to work evenings/weekends and some holidays as needed.</li><li>Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking experience.</li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.</li></ul><p><strong>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p><ul><li>Preference for one year of professional University of Minnesota admissions experience.</li></ul>
