his position supports student recruitment and selection efforts designed to satisfy Institute-established freshman, transfer enrollment goals. This position conducts significant amounts of student recruitment, providing superior counseling, advising and information services for prospective students, parents, education professionals, and other influences.
Detailed Job Description A counselor is assigned a geographic region of responsibility and is expected to maintain liaison relationships with education professionals residing in that region. This is an entry level professional position with an expected career ladder move within three years. Responsibilities include:
Collaborates and maintains productive working relationships with RIT faculty and staff involved in student recruitment.
Outreach and recruitment activities
Represent the University on- and off-campus to prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors and other education professionals or organizations involved in the college recruitment and selection process.
Plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned national and international recruitment territories.
Maximize enrollment interests regionally, nationally and internationally as identified by established enrollment goals.
Counselors consider and analyze a multitude of factors in determining an applicant's eligibility to be admitted and are responsible for completing the admission decision, which requires a significant levels of training and knowledge.
Admission decisions must be made within the bounds of federal and state laws and guidelines, while satisfying the ethical requirements and guidelines identified within the Statement of Principles of Good Practice as promulgated by the National Association of College Admission Counselors.
More than 12,000 applicants are considered for admission annually, with total tuition contributing approximately 75% of the Institute's annual operating budget.
Required Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors degree with at least one year of related experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills including oral presentation, written and interpersonal. Individual must also demonstrate excellent project management skills, initiative, capability in transforming ideas into practical solutions, ability to work over sustained periods of time and the exercise of good judgment and discretion in decision making. As a department driven by data and technology, the individual is expected to possess an array of computing skills, including analytical and problem solving abilities.
Must be highly flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment that emphasizes measurable outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications Masters degreeKnowledge of all RIT academic programs and services.Related experience in a post-secondary institution position
