Reporting to the Vice Provost and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, the Director of Admissions is a member of the senior management team in the division of College Enrollment (CE). The division of CE includes the offices of Admissions (ADM), Veteran and Military Family Services, Financial Aid, and CE and also includes the Student Employment and Pre-College Programs. The Director leads the Office of Admissions, embodying the vision and mission of both the division of College Enrollment and Admissions. In collaboration with the Vice Provost and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, the Director articulates ADM priorities and goals. The Director creates and continually assesses the office’s policies and procedures to ensure excellent and consistently improving customer service and outreach, office efficiency and professional effectiveness as the College and University strive to meet ambitious goals.
The Director must have the ability to speak publicly and extensively about the University of Rochester education in various contexts. The Director has full accountability for the effectiveness of ADM, building the pipeline, overseeing recruiting for undergraduate and pre-college programs, review, evaluation, and enrollment for approximately 1,500 new undergraduates each year in the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering. The Director utilizes strategic planning, critical thinking, problem solving and negotiating skills to analyze trends in enrollment and marketing activities. The Director must adapt, improvise, design plans, and implement changes that move enrollment goals and activities in ADM forward.
The Director leads direct recruitment efforts for potential first-year and transferring undergraduates who are attending or most recently attended secondary and higher education institutions in the United States and its territories. Each year the Director leads ~45+ full-time equivalent staff, part-time, temporary and student employees in service of University and CE goals for new student enrollment and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Director leads a department committed to service excellence and promotes an environment which ensures effective, professional interactions between the ADM staff and its customers. The Director utilizes multiple avenues to continually assess the office’s policies and procedures to identify opportunities to improve customer service and outreach as well as office efficiency and professional effectiveness. Evening and weekend work is often required throughout the annual calendar of recruiting and hosting students and ensuring that their applications for admission earn timely response.
