Summary of Duties:
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions, University Orientation and First Year Experience (UAUOFYE) at The Ohio State University is an exciting place to be. This is an opportunity to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission and support of outstanding students. The Outreach and Recruitment team is responsible for recruiting prospective students to The Ohio State University Columbus campus. The admissions counselor position is an important position on the Outreach and Recruitment team as the individual oversees a freshman territory and serves as a lead counselor for transfer and military recruitment.
The admissions counselor reports to a Senior Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment. The individual will be located in the Student Academic Services Building (Buckeye Link) and will work alongside a team of approximately 15. Peak seasons are typically August through November and February through April given the cyclical nature of the admissions cycle. Through the year, the admissions counselor is responsible for managing the assigned recruitment territory, developing relationships with community colleges and offices, and evaluating applications to the university. Work hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may require early morning, evening or weekend hours given the role's direct work with recruitment programs.
As a member of Undergraduate Admissions, University Orientation, First Year Experience (UAUOFYE) counsels prospective undergraduate students and their families and assists with orientation and First Year Experience activities; manages recruitment territory; assists with territory specific recruitment activities and events; develops positive relationships with high school counselors and community college advisors; travels to high schools, community colleges, and college fairs to represent OSU; travels up to 12 weeks a year (Fall and Spring); conducts large and small-group presentations; corresponds and counsels prospective students within territory and other undergraduate applicants regarding Ohio State admission policies, procedures and general information; makes recruitment phone calls to prospective students; analyzes prospective student data; learns and uses the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA) and other technologies; monitors territory recruitment budget; assists with on campus and off campus recruitment projects; reads applications through our holistic application review process; understands the areas within the office and university to best direct questions from staff and guests; participates as an active member of UAUOFYE through membership on committees, assisting offices during events and other times throughout the year; researches and resolves problems; involves occasional evening and weekend hours.

Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; ability to be flexible and adapt to ongoing changes; excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills to communication with individuals at all levels; strong organizational skills; successful completion of a background check.

Target Salary: $16.35 - $17.31 Hourly
