The New School seeks an Admission Counselor responsible for admission recruitment, counseling and outreach for all undergraduate programs. Reporting to the Director, Enrollment Center Services, the Admission Counselor will represent the university's undergraduate programs to both on- and off-campus prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Evening and weekend hours will be required. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic professional able to work independently and as a member of the Enrollment Center Services team. The incumbent will assist with enrollment initiatives including admission and recruitment events, mailings and communications, walk-in admission counselling and other duties as assigned. A strong customer service orientation and the demonstrated ability to perform a variety of complex and diverse tasks involving independent judgment and action are required. Responsibilities include:
Assumes primary responsibility for in-person walk-in admission counseling through the university welcome center for all undergraduate programs, liaising between the student and the university, and assisting in the completion of necessary enrollment forms
Liaises with Marketing and Communication to provide oversight and management for retail sales occurring within the University welcome center
Interviews students, conduct group information/welcome sessions and travel throughout the United States to represent the New School at high schools, community colleges, college fairs and at public and service organizations
Fields incoming communications, via telephone and email, from prospective students, parents and college counselors in need of information about the university's academic programs and admission requirements
Liaises with Offices of Admission, Admission Communications, and the Student Contact Center to make outgoing communication (telephone, email, social media) to prospective students, parents, and college counselors
Assists the Assistant Director, Admission Events, as needed with planning and implementation of admission events, including A/V needs, event space set-up, catering, and presenters and participation of stakeholders
Assists the Manager, Student Contact Center with ongoing edits/updates to admission Brain Entries
Manages and enters data, as necessary, including executing reports
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of academic programs and admission requirements, financial aid processes, and industry trends and best practices of the college admission counseling profession
Assists the Director with special projects and tasks, as assigned
A bachelor's degree. Coursework in art and design, liberal arts or performing arts preferred.
Experience in college admission office, strongly preferred.
Ability to work independently, planning and organizing tasks without need for constant direct supervision, handling multiple tasks with accuracy and speed.
Considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Flexibility, curiosity, follow-through, and a strong desire to provide excellent customer service
Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, orally and in writing.
A valid driver's license and passport.
Facility with Microsoft Office Suite and Google apps; experience with CRM or databases preferred.
