Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Freshman and International Admissions provides overall leadership and supervision of the outreach, recruitment, scholarship, and admissions efforts of freshman and international applicants, to include marketing and communication, Welcome Center, alumni relations, scholarships, and territory management within the state, nationally and internationally. The Director develops proactive and nimble strategies to adjust to changing environments and trends in recruitment and admission of freshman and international students; uses best-practices and current technological solutions to manage inquiry and applicant pools; utilizes appropriate social media tools to engage prospective, applicant and admitted students, maintain communication, and manage yield. The Director, working collaboratively with the Director of Admissions Operations and the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, will make admission decisions to shape the freshmen class, in an effort to meet yield and enrollment targets, and support university enrollment initiatives. This position will contribute to the enrollment, diversity, and internationalization goals of the university through the intentional expansion of recruitment efforts into key international and out of state markets. In addition to overseeing the international outreach and recruitment efforts, the Director supervises the credential evaluation of international freshman, transfer, and graduate students. Further, the Director, in collaboration with the Director of Admissions Operations, will build and maintain positive working relationships with the secondary school community and state college/community college advisors, conducting workshops and participating in activities designed to educate the high school guidance and state college/community college advisor communities about the University of Florida in general and the freshmen and transfer application and admission process specifically. This position manages the budget for the outreach and recruitment area of the Admissions Office and works in conjunction with the Director of Admissions Operations to direct budget management, purchasing, and personnel management of the office. The Director leads a management team focused on outreach, recruitment, and scholarships for freshman students including hiring, training, supervision, and mentoring of staff.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and eight years of progressively responsible experience, or a master’s degree and six years of relevant experience in admissions, enrollment management, academic affairs, or student affairs. The successful candidate will have experience with recruitment of students from diverse backgrounds, international students, and academically talented students. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate excellent abilities in supervision, management, selection, performance evaluation, leadership, conflict resolution, problem solving, and team building. The new Director will have proven knowledge of marketing principles, practices, and techniques relevant to student recruitment; appreciation of current and innovative technology used in recruitment and application processing including social media and CRM; and an understanding of the importance of building and maintaining open communication with a variety of stakeholders including faculty, staff from other divisions of the university, parents, students, and partners at high schools and community colleges. Furthermore, the position requires a proven track record of exceptional leadership in admissions/recruitment; experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and program development; the ability to effectively use data for analysis and assessment; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to contribute to the overall leadership and vision of the division.
