Department Description The Office of Admissions is the primary source of information about the University of Minnesota, Morris for prospective students. The office recruits and admits students and facilitates the connection to the University faculty and staff to discuss programs in which a student is interested. In addition, it represents and markets the campus through electronic communications and printed brochures and material regarding all phases of the institution and its policies and programs.
Purpose of Position A key member of the admission team, an Admission Counselor must be enthusiastic, highly-motivated, and have the ability to articulate the values and objectives of a liberal arts institution to attract, recruit, and admit prepared students to the University of Minnesota, Morris. The individual selected will represent Morris to the public providing high quality service to prospective students and their families and collaborating with members of the campus to support students and advance efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at UMM. The duties of the position will require travel, including extended overnight stays, and flexible evening and weekend hours.
Responsibilities: 1. Designs tailored recruitment plan for assigned territory to meet short-term and long-term goals. 2. Plans and executes territory management plan, conducting student recruitment/outreach activities on and off campus. 3. Plans and participates in recruitment and enrollment activities, including: open houses, regional presentation, orientation programs, career days, regional and national college fairs, scholarship days, etc. 4. Builds brand awareness and reputation in prospective student and parent audiences. Develops public presentation s designed to promote the University. 5. Meets with perspective students and parents to provide individual counseling on educational options and alternatives. 6. Monitors student behavior trends in territory and adjusts recruiting plan accordingly. 7. Reviews applications and makes admissions based on academic requirements and program choice compatibility. 8. Engages in extensive tele-counseling within assigned recruitment territory. 9. Represents Morris at on and off campus events for a minimum of 12 weekends annually. Meet individual recruitment goals and objectives. 10. Anticipates and respond to the needs of guests from diverse cultures and backgrounds. 11. Models and promote respect and effective partnerships in advancing Morris’s efforts to build an inclusive, respectful campus community. 12. Performs other duties as assigned.
The University of Minnesota Morris Office of Admissions seeks an Admissions Counselor. This is a full-time, twelve month, annually renewable, academic and administrative staff appointment. The work days and hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, some evenings and weekends and travel is required. The position is directly responsible to the Director of Admissions. The qualifications are as follows:
Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of experience • Valid driver’s license. • Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to the value of a liberal arts education. • Demonstrated commitment to building a diverse, inclusive campus and living community. • Excellent public speaking and writing skills, and strong organizational skills. • Excellent customer service skills. • Ability to work effectively within a team environment. • Demonstrate a commitment to recruiting a diverse student population. • Ability to travel a minimum of 12 weeks annually, including extended overnight stays, and flexible evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (or qualifications): • Previous experience in selective college admission, college counseling, or in related areas of higher education.
