Indiana University Kokomo seeks qualified candidates for the position of Admissions Counselor. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Admissions and is primarily responsible for recruiting prospective students, including high school students, transfers students and adults.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to: planning and implementing admissions and student recruitments activities; visiting area high schools, businesses and social service agencies; meeting with and counseling high school students and their parents, transfer, returning adult students, and students in the ABC dual degree program at Ivy Tech Community College. Regular duties include reviewing applications for admissions; assisting transfer students with credit articulation; organizing special events; and regular communication with prospective students and applicants. The candidate selected will also be expected to become knowledgeable about all academic programs and degrees offered by IU Kokomo. Evening and weekend hours are routinely required. This admissions counselor position will be responsible for the recruitment of out of state students. Limited overnight travel will be required.
Qualifications: An earned bachelor's degree and a valid driver's license are required. Experience in making presentations is required, and a presentation will be required during the interview process. Qualified applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff and external constituents. Strong organizational skills are required, as is the ability to think creatively and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Experience in college/university admissions or related student personnel function, or marketing is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish), strong computer skills, including experience with social media channels and expertise with Microsoft Office is also preferred.
