Sarah Lawrence College seeks an Associate Director of admissions with at least five years of progressively growing responsibilities in a selective admission office, or equivalent experience. This position will provide opportunities to grow into new areas in admissions, as well as the chance to provide mentorship for early-career staff members.
Responsibilities for this position include: managing all aspects of a significant geographic territory, from recruitment to enrollment, and will include 5-7 annual weeks of travel to visit high schools, college fairs, and community-based organizations; conducting information sessions and interviews with prospective students, both on and off campus; maintaining open lines of communication and fostering ongoing conversations with prospective students, families, as well as guidance and college counselors; reading applications and serving on admissions committees.
This position will also involve coordinating relationships with various offices across campus, student groups, and/or other campus communities. Opportunities to engage in access programming for first generation students, work with current students and campus events, contribute to communications and social media streams, or other secondary responsibilities may also be available for individuals with those backgrounds. The successful candidate will also show the ability to manage and supervise a team of admissions counselors, which may include responsibilities for staff training on reading and travel, or leading an admission committee. Additional duties as assigned. Must be willing to travel and work extended hours, evenings, and weekends when necessary.
The position requires excellent planning, organization, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, the ability to work well independently and as part of a team, and the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze data to inform decision making are essential.
Must have at least a bachelor’s degree, a valid driver’s license, and a sense of humor.
