The Higher Education Consultants Association is seeking an experienced professional in college admissions or higher education administration to lead the membership of HECA.
The Executive Director provides vision, as well as strategic and tactical support to advance the mission of the Association andenable HECA to achieve its full organizational potential.
The Higher Education Consultants Association was founded in 1997 to support the practice of independent college admissions consulting. HECA is dedicated to advancing professional criterions for the higher education consulting field, incorporating ethical standards of conduct and promoting equity and access to higher education for all college bound students. The Executive Director reports directly to the 11-member Board of Directors, prepares and manages an annual budget of $600,000 to ensure financial stability and growth, and supervises a bookkeeper and a home based administrative staff of two. The Executive Director, in partnership with the Board, establishes priorities, sets goals and monitors progress. Key priorities include: the implementation of operational systems to facilitate the organization’s professional development offerings, and coordinating public relations partnerships to ensure that both HECA and the educational consulting profession have a visible and effective public image. This individual will value, promote and support the active participation of member volunteers in all areas of the organization. The Executive Director will ensure that HECA complies with all applicable laws and regulations, working with external legal counsel and consultants as required.
Significant experience in a leadership role in college admissions or higher education administration including management responsibilities, marketing and public relations
A working knowledge of the developments and trends in the field of higher education
Public speaking experience with the ability to convey a vision of HECA’s strategic future to staff, board and the higher education community
Ability to oversee and collaborate with volunteers, staff and board members
Highly motivated, self-confident, challenge-driven and entrepreneurial
Capacity to thrive in an autonomous work environment
