Detailed Job Description The Admissions Counselor works within a geographical region towards the successful recruitment of prospective students with hearing loss to RIT.
Communicate the values of a RIT education through presentations, booth activities, open houses, and other publicity efforts on behalf of RIT/NTID to prospective students with hearing loss, their parents, secondary school counselors, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and other education professionals or organizations involved in the college recruitment and selection process.
Review application materials to facilitate admission decisions.
Maintain meaningful relationships with high school and transfer students with hearing loss and other stakeholders (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, teacher/guidance counselor, parents) towards enrolled student status.
Identify regional travel plans and strategies for the travel coordinator to schedule school visits.
Make travel arrangements within allocated budget and university travel procedures.
Exercise collaborative efforts to maintain working knowledge of resources within the region to communicate current and relevant information about a variety of college-related options (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, state financial aid assistance programs, state admissions professional organizations).
Work with RIT/NTID pre-college outreach programs to create a pipeline of students.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned and commensurate with experience.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree required. Master degree preferred and in good academic standing.
Familiar with business travel and must be prepared to travel roughly 40-55 days during the peak fall travel season and throughout the year.
Must be highly flexible and able to work in a business-like work environment that emphasizes customer service relations and measurable work outcomes.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation skills and communication skills, written and sign language skills to communicate across communication modes.
American Sign Language fluency is required.
Full adherence to confidentiality expectations and appropriate boundaries with minors.

PLEASE NOTE: The individual hired for this position will be required to have a pre-employment Motor Vehicle check, and the Motor Vehicle Report must clear RIT's Safe Driving Policy (please refer to page 4)
