The Assistant Director of Multicultural Recruitment will demonstrate a deep commitment to diversity and will ensure the operational effectiveness of the office’s multicultural recruitment effort. This position is an integral part of an undergraduate admissions leadership team that is charged with ensuring that the Office of Admissions achieves continued recruitment and enrollment success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Freshman and Transfer Recruitment, the person in this position will serve as a manager in the Office of Admissions with primary responsibilities that include assisting the Director of Freshman and Transfer Recruitment with developing and implementing a high-touch, high-impact, and comprehensive multicultural recruitment program. This individual will have budgetary responsibility for their unit and will serve as a public authority on University Admissions.
The person in this position will be responsible for leading, managing, mentoring, and coaching a team of five freshman admissions counselors that will cultivate relationships with key constituents, including community leaders, campus partners, and school counselors as a means of ensuring a thorough understanding of the University of Minnesota’s admissions process. Further, this position ensures that relationships with high school students are established and developed, resulting in a strong, qualified pool of ethnically diverse and academically prepared students in support of the university’s overall enrollment goal.
Demonstrated experience working in a large, complex organization.
A minimum of six years of progressive responsibility in undergraduate admissions, including, but not limited to, admissions counseling, application review, multicultural recruitment, etc.
Demonstrated strong commitment to diversity.
Experience developing and mentoring professional staff.
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and build positive relationships with colleagues across campus.
Experience developing, planning, implementing, and tracking undergraduate admissions recruitment programming.
Valid driver's license; ability to work nights and weekends and travel as needed.
Demonstrated experience with budget management.
Demonstrated track record of success in achieving stated outcomes.
Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills (including verbal, written, and presentation).
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
Working knowledge of effective recruitment tactics.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Three years of progressively more responsible supervisory/management experience.
Demonstrated experience as a member of an organization's leadership team.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
Understanding of both Minnesota and national recruitment and enrollment trends and environment.
Demonstrated experience managing large scale recruitment programs.
Experience with the University of Minnesota, a large public research institution, or an AAU institution.
