Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Office of Admissions at Iowa State University is seeking applications for an Admissions Counselor. The primary purpose of the Admissions Counselor position is to attract, recruit and enroll prospective students to the University through a variety of methods including scheduling and visiting high schools, and attending college fairs in Iowa and other states to provide information about educational opportunities, admissions and financial aid procedures to prospective students, families, and high school guidance counselors. When not representing Iowa State off-campus, the incumbent's responsibilities will include assisting Campus Visits with and conducting daily enrollment presentations, assisting with early outreach and New Student Programs events and activities, responding to daily admissions inquiries (via written and electronic communication), and working on other miscellaneous projects and assignments including follow up with students met while on the road. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Admissions.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The candidate will also possess the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds; a willingness to travel extensively and to work early mornings, late evenings and weekends; the ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced, changing workplace; and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals on and off campus.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience in one or more of the following: public speaking, sales, volunteer or work experience within student affairs.
Experience working under a sales/territory management model.
Experience conducting presentations in a professional setting.
Experience with admissions recruitment processes and procedures.
Experience planning and conducting recruitment or outreach events.
