The Office of Admissions is a department within the Office of Enrollment Management and the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. Responsible for recruiting the freshman class for the Bloomington campus, the Office of Admissions hosts more than 50,000 visitors each year. Admissions staff counsel prospective students and their families about the admissions process, provide accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and markets and represents IU Bloomington at both on and off campus events and programs. The Senior Admissions Counselor serves the mission and directives of Indiana University by consulting with campus academic units and independently exercising decision making authority to achieve student recruitment, outreach, admissions, and enrollment objectives for various academic units. This position assists with the planning, management and implementation of various recruitment programs. As a territory manager, represents the University at high school visits, college nights, and recruitment events on and off campus and manages recruitment resources. Analyzes data and ensures that goals are met. Takes action consistent with this analysis and provides leadership for academic and student service units on admission strategies. Interprets academic policies and exercises authority and independent judgment on a case-by-case basis. Position requires individual to investigate complaints and questions and determine the best course of action for students and families. Provide training and orientation for staff and volunteers involved in recruitment activities. Position requires considerable travel.
Note: This is a limited-term position with funding for one year from the time of hire with a possibility of renewal.
REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree and two years of work experience in a complex customer service environment.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Evidence of strong written, communication and presentation skills with a variety of audiences and situations. Previous experience of demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to make decisions and exercise independent judgment in a time sensitive, high volume environment essential. Knowledge of standard office equipment, computer and word processing applications and some experience working with databases and/or spreadsheets. Able to interpret directions and written materials. Evidence of a strong customer-service orientation, self-direction, teamwork and well developed work ethic. Promptness and a consistent attendance record as well as availability to work Saturdays in rotation with other staff.
Experience within a university setting. Experience working with university information systems and/or equivalent systems.
