Sweet Briar College (Sweet Briar, VA), recognized by U.S. News & World Report in the fall of 2018 as one of the “Most Innovative Schools” in the nation, invites nominations and applications for a new Vice President for Enrollment Management.
Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the senior leadership team of the College, the Vice President for Enrollment Management will join Sweet Briar College at a pivotal moment and actively lead efforts to capitalize on its national recognition for innovation, its restructured curriculum and its tuition reset to help the College achieve its enrollment goals. He or she will contribute significantly to the inspiring work of establishing Sweet Briar College as one of the most innovative liberal arts colleges in the country that is recognized for excellence in select areas.
The next Vice President for Enrollment Management will be an experienced and skilled enrollment leader with a track record of achieving and exceeding goals. He or she will lead all recruitment and admissions efforts, providing the vision for the enrollment operation while continuously assessing and refining the strategy and tactics needed to achieve objectives in a rapidly-changing environment.

Expectations for Leadership
Learn, embrace and embody Sweet Briar’s distinct culture and mission;
Work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels across the institution in the development, execution and assessment of a strategic enrollment management plan and in building a culture in which the responsibility for recruitment and retention is shared by everyone;
Lead all recruitment and admissions efforts, providing the vision for the enrollment operation while continuously assessing and refining the strategy and tactics needed to achieve objectives in a rapidly changing environment;
Actively and enthusiastically participate in recruitment efforts nationally and internationally;
Work with consultants to develop and effective pipeline strategy;
Have oversight of the admissions and financial aid budget including the allocation of financial aid and scholarships;
Further develop and support a strong admission and financial aid staff that is optimistic, excited about advancing the College, responsive, innovative, analytical, energetic, results-oriented and student centered;
Harness data and emerging technologies to hit enrollment targets and meet net-revenue goals;
Partner with coaches and others in athletics to establish mutually beneficial relationships that enhance recruitment efforts;
Continue efforts to raise the visibility of Sweet Briar College regionally, nationally and globally;
Collaborate with other members of the president’s cabinet to ensure effective management of the College.
Qualities, Qualifications and Experience
The next vice president for enrollment management will be an experienced and skilled enrollment leader with a track record of achieving and exceeding goals who inspires the confidence of the administration, faculty, staff, trustees and alumnae. In addition, she or he will have:
A bachelor’s degree (required) or advanced degree (preferred) plus a minimum of six years of senior leadership in admissions and financial aid;
The ability to galvanize the Sweet Briar community around a dynamic enrollment operation;
Experience with collaborative retention strategies;
Demonstrated success assessing and developing targeted, diverse student markets;
Proven success in innovative thinking and risk taking combined with excellent execution of both complex and routine strategies and initiatives;
The ability to maximize the use of consulting resources;
Familiarity with ERP systems (FrontRush, Capture, Slate) and an understanding of how to deploy them in order to utilize their full capabilities;
A sophisticated understanding of how to make decisions regarding the strategic use of resources and experience managing substantial budgets;
A strong understanding of admission and retention best practices nationally and internationally and an understanding of how to translate those to be effective at Sweet Briar;
Excellent technology skills and analytics focus, with the ability to work effectively with data;
Compelling written and verbal skills with the ability to serve as a dynamic representative of the College articulating a vision effectively to all constituencies;
High energy and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with a willingness to “roll up sleeves” to get the work done;
A collaborative, transparent leadership style;
The ability to observe, listen, learn and clarify needs while engendering trust quickly ?among various constituencies;
The willingness and ability to adapt to changing needs;
The ability to make difficult decisions and communicate those decisions to key stakeholders.
