Central Connecticut State University invites applications for the Director of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director oversees the staff and operations of the Office of Financial Aid including administering financial aid and monitoring the financial aid budget and enrollment goals. He or she will be an experienced and innovative financial aid professional capable of providing visionary leadership, developing the skills of the financial aid staff, and delivering superior customer service to students and their families.
Provides leadership and management for the University’s Office of Financial Aid. Supervises personnel assigned to the Office and facilitates professional activities for staff.
Manages the operation of the Office to support the University’s enrollment goals and strategic plan. Recommends updates to policies and procedures to ensure the Office keeps up-to-date with new developments and strategies in financial aid. Develops, interprets, and implements policies and procedures to provide efficient and effective service to the University’s students and families.
Effectively and efficiently administers state, federal, University, and other financial assistance programs to meet the needs of the University’s students. Oversees the processing of aid applications, determination of aid eligibility, development and application of packaging policies, distribution/notification of awards to students and record keeping in support of these processes. Leads the implementation and maintenance of the University’s financial aid leveraging strategy.
Communicates Office programs, policies and procedures to the University’s constituencies, and provides timely responses to inquiries. Leads financial aid workshops and presentations to prospective, new and continuing students and families.
Oversees the financial resources of the Office and participates in University committees as appropriate.
Assumes accountability for all federal, state and institutional aid programs in order to insure compliance with regulations and effective funds management. Maintains current knowledge of the regulations governing the various aid programs being administered and provides oversight for reporting related to these programs.
Available for on- and off-campus events and workshops held at various times including evenings and weekends.
Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those above that do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.
Master’s degree required with preference given if in a related area and six years of experience in a college/university student financial aid office.
Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise staff and oversee financial resources/budgets.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point and enterprise resource planning software and/or web-based student information systems.
Knowledge of and strong experience with the Financial Aid module of the Banner Student system preferred.
Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.
Experience with financial aid and econometric modeling and leveraging strategies
Experience working at a mid-sized public institution
Experience working with NCAA Division I or II athletics and athletic scholarships.

The Community: Located nine miles southwest of Hartford, New Britain is a city of some 70,000.
