Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking an Admissions Counselor for the Office of Student Affairs at the School of Public Health. The Admissions Counselor is a member of the Office of Admissions’ team and reports to the Director of Admissions and Recruitment. The Admissions Counselor will work alongside the Director in the planning, implementation, and assessment of recruitment events both on and off-campus. This position will work closely with overseeing student ambassadors who will assist with the execution of office events and recruitment initiatives. The Admissions Counselor performs significant recruiting and admissions functions necessary to accomplish enrollment goals and meet the admissions needs of academic departments.
Responsible for representation of the School to diverse audiences, along with planning and implementing recruitment strategies through college fairs, conferences, and community events both local and nationally. Provides information on programs including requirements and deadlines. Maintains familiarity with program information available online to applicants.
Oversees the scheduling, planning, and implementation on all Admission Special events, including but not limited to Student Visit Days, Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, and information sessions.
Meets regularly with Director of Admissions and Recruitment to report and evaluate recruitment efforts, developing effective outreach strategies for recruitment. Works with Assistant Dean for Diversity & Inclusion on recruitment initiatives and activities.
Maintains the online recruitment calendar and sends recruitment correspondence.
Assists with admissions marketing initiatives and actively participates in state and regional admissions fairs.
Collaborates with specialty Directors to assure up to date admissions requirements are maintained in the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.
Tracks student admissions and enrollment (applications, accepts, deposits, melt), updating files and maintaining security. Verifies application/applicant data is correct in application system or student data system.
Assists the Director with preparing information packets, purchase orders and travel expenses.
Assists and maintains technical functions of the Admissions and Recruitment offices including web applications, automated common application services, student portals, BANNER manipulation, SOPHAS, and others when needed.
Oversees the fulfillment process and status of communications in the admissions funnel, from inquiry through initial enrollment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field plus three (3) years of professional level experience required.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated computer competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Must appreciate unique characteristics of different cultures and minority groups and respect individual differences.
Must be a team-player, innovative and a self-starter with motivation to contribute to the overall goals of the School/University.
Must have vehicle and valid driver's license to travel.
Master's Degree in Higher Education or a related field plus five (5) years of related experience preferred.
Knowledge of University systems (BANNER, Centralized Application Service (CAS), Marketplace) preferred.
Prior experience in admissions and recruitment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
PHYSICALDEMANDS: Must be able to lift or exert force up to 25 pounds
This position is primarily located in Piscataway, NJ but will require travel to all SPH locations.
Individual will also be required to work from various SPH campus locations.
Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel between Rutgers campuses, locally and nationally for recruitment. Ability to occasionally work nights and weekends as assigned.
