The Admissions Counselor will recruit outstanding students to enroll in UMBC’s award-winning degree programs in Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts. In Maryland and out-of-state, the successful applicant will seek prospective freshmen and transfer students proficient in the above areas. In addition, the counselor will assist in developing and implementing effective recruitment strategies with each of the four arts departments. This will include building relationships with visual and performing arts educators at selected high schools and community colleges.
Specific duties include: presenting information at targeted high schools, community colleges, recruitment fairs and arts conferences; attending relevant showcases; providing communication channels for prospective and admitted students and their families; assisting in departmental recruiting efforts and special visit days; reviewing freshman and transfer applications; rendering admissions decisions; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts or a closely related field required. Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations both verbally and in writing. Must demonstrate a high level of organization, and the ability to manage various relational assignments. A valid driver’s license is required.

Note: The position requires frequent local and out-of-state travel during the fall and spring. Some evening and weekend work required.
Experience with arts advocacy, and strong knowledge in arts areas beyond the candidate’s degree preferred.
