Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School invites applications for a full-time College Counselor in the College Counseling Department for the 2020-2021 academic year. Located in Washington, DC and founded in 1799, Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School educates young women in grades 9 – 12 in a faith-centered community focused on educational excellence and rooted in the Roman Catholic faith and Salesian tradition.
The College Counselor provides support to students in their process of applying to and selecting a college, partners with parents, and represents Georgetown Visitation to colleges and universities. Qualifications include experience in a secondary school college counseling program (preferably in a Catholic and/or independent school) and/or experience in a college admissions office. Experience in both secondary and higher educational settings is preferable, as is a Master’s Degree in a related field.
A broad understanding of current trends and issues in college admissions; an ability to work well with students, parents, faculty, and college admissions officers; and an understanding of standardized testing and secondary school curricula are essential. Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as creativity, good humor, and willingness to counsel a diversely talented group of students through an emotionally charged time in their lives are required. Candidates must also be willing to work closely with departmental colleagues in a collaborative, dynamic setting. Candidates for an Associate Director of College Counseling will be considered provided experience and education meet the requirements listed.
