| Position Overview College Prep 360, a fast-growing, boutique educational advising firm, seeks a Director of Counseling to help train, manage, and support our growing staff of college counselors. The ideal candidate will have exceptional knowledge of the undergraduate admissions process that has been gained both by evaluating applications for a selective college and successfully advising students and families. Just as importantly, the Director of Counseling should also excel at providing support and mentorship to colleagues. You should be able to provide our team of counselors with a balance of autonomy and structure, encouragement and constructive feedback, and creativity and adherence to company policies. You will be responsible for: - Contributing to a positive company culture where staff members feel supported in their work and ready to take on new challenges.
- Creating/refining company protocol to assist counselors in advising on all aspects of the college admissions process.
- Managing ~10-15 college counselors by providing individual feedback on topics including, but not limited to:
- College lists
- College essays
- Extracurricular narratives
- Helping students build strong and appropriate academic profiles to meet their goals
- Creating/refining training materials and procedures on topics related to college admissions including, but not limited to:
- Extracurricular opportunities for students
- College essay topics
- Communicating with admissions officers
- Building college lists
- Advising on standardized testing
To be a successful candidate, you will have: - A minimum of two years reading applications for a selective college admissions office
- Demonstrated one-on-one consulting experience and a proven track record of success
- Up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of the college admissions process
- Excellent communication and documented writing skills
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- A passion for creativity and a desire to learn
- Familiarity with the academic and social demands of elite high school culture and the competitive college admissions landscape
To be a successful candidate, you must be able to: - Work well with colleagues, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Help counselors create systems that encourage students and their families to get organized and adhere to deadlines
- Be creative and insightful in helping counselors identify each student’s unique strengths, nurturing their interests and identifying opportunities for them to shine
- Understand the selective college landscape and match students with a college that will truly allow him or her to thrive
- Be flexible and think on your feet
