The Gunston School seeks an engaging, knowledgeable educator to fill the position of Co-Director of College Guidance. The Co-Director shares the responsibility for overseeing Gunston’s comprehensive program that takes students through every aspect of the college admission process. The Co-Director reports to the Headmaster and to the Assistant Head of School. The Co-Director must have a deep understanding of college preparation and the counseling process including course selection and credit requirements, the college search and match, standardized testing and test optional schools, special learning accommodations, the college application and financial aid processes, and the scholarship search and application processes. The Co-Director must possess strong oral and written communication skills along with a high degree of competence in database management.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree and have 3-5 years experience in college counseling.
Close collaboration between the Co-Directors and with the Headmaster and Assistant Head of School
The review, development, and implementation of the College 101 curriculum with the 11th grade
Serving as the school’s AP Coordinator and working closely with the Assistant Head of School who serves as the AP Administrator for the school
Internal, formal standardized test preparation for the 11th grade
Uploading testing results to Naviance and preparing an annual report of data for the administration, faculty, and Board of Trustees
Assistance for students and families who seek external standardized test preparation
Design and implementation of the 11th Grade College Evening in the fall of each year
An annual meeting with each 11th grade family
Devising prospective college lists for juniors each spring, taking into account their educational goals as well as financial considerations.
Keeping track of active college lists and admission decisions in Naviance.
Collaborating with the 12th grade Co-Director and offering feedback on college essays and supplemental writings during the college application process
Along with the 12th grade Co-Director, networking with college admissions professionals to improve the Gunston’s visibility and reputation to increase the active recruitment and admission of our students
Working with the Co-Director and the Communications Office to prepare an annual school profile for the school’s website and to share with colleges and universities
Along with the Co-Director and administration, be an active member of professional organizations including College Board, NACAC, (etc.)
Remaining informed on trends in college admission, higher education, educational testing, best practices in teaching and learning.
