Reporting to the Director of Admission, the Admission Counselor/Assistant Director is expected to become fully engaged in a broad range of recruitment and admission activities. The Admission Counselor/Assistant Director will be an important member of our Communications team which would include duties extending to print and digital projects with the Office of Communications; using video and print assets to set up messaging to prospective students and other constituents; and supporting the execution of communication plans using print, email, SMS, web and digital platforms. Other activities will include but are not limited to working with and communicating to student staff, representing the College to prospective students and their families, establishing relationships with high school counselors and teachers in promoting the College’s visibility, and counseling prospective students, their families and others with regard to applying for admission to the College.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an integral member of the Admission team that is responsible for recruiting and enrolling exceptional students. Join the Communications team to support deployment of communication plans using print, email, SMS, web, and digital assets. Cooperate with the events and visits team to ensure strong communication to campus visitors. Gather stories from students and alumni that would interest prospective students, families, and other constituents. Assist in managing student staff for various on-campus events. This could include hiring, training, and supervising student coordinators to ensure smooth running of an on-campus program. Support the mission of the Office of Admission in increasing the diversity of the applicant pool and enrolling class. Contribute to programming designed to meet this objective. Participate in and assist with the planning and implementation of campus recruitment and yield activities and special programs. Represent Harvey Mudd College to prospective students and their families, high school counselors, community members, and others at events on and off campus, and by visiting high schools across the nation. Establish relationships with high school counselors and teachers to extend the visibility of the College. Counsel prospective students, their families, high school counselors and others with regard to applying for admission to the College and advise them about admission process and life at the College; refer students and families to the appropriate Financial Aid representative; serve as a resource for prospective students and their families. Keep current with academic program updates, requirements and offerings. Interview prospective students. Develop and maintain competency with using the Office of Admission database and online reading system. Annually, read and evaluate applications for admission and participate fully in the selection process of candidates for admission. Maintain focus on several activities at one time (multi-tasking) and anticipate seasonal variations in workload in quantity and quality. Maintain confidentiality of records, correspondence, and information, regardless of the format (e.g. electronic, phone calls). Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.
Experience: Knowledge of and experience in a liberal arts college setting is preferred but is not required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Excellent and adaptable presentation skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds, including but not limited to: cultures; ethnic groups and backgrounds.
· Possession of excellent verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of audiences including prospective students, their families, school officials, guidance counselors, community officials, campus colleagues and the public. Strong editing and proofreading skills are preferred.
· Able and willing to travel (up to two weeks at a time, seasonal); and work weekend and evening hours, as needed.
· Work flexibly and maintain productivity while working under pressure.
· Thrive in a collaborative team environment. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of individuals and groups.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students.
· Project management skills including taking a project from concept to design to implementation while working with a diverse constituency.
· Work independently, and as a team member.
· Exercise sound judgment in confidential or sensitive situations.
· Be proactive in anticipating problems, and recommending solutions.
· Comfort with using technology to enhance productivity and to assess progress toward office goals.
· Learn and use new data systems and platforms effectively.
· Demonstrated understanding of and appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education and Harvey Mudd College’s mission.

Experience that has resulted in an understanding and appreciation of highly selective admission is appealing but not required
Hours: The regular business hours for this position are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours will vary due to the needs of the department and may require evenings and weekends.
Classification: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible exempt position.
