The Manager, Military & Veteran’s Affairs will be responsible for all aspects of recruitment and retention for military and veteran students or dependents of military and veterans. The University of New Haven is home to over 300 military/student veterans and dependents, as well as nearly 100 ROTC cadets. CORE DUTIES:

• Manage all aspects of the military and veteran’s recruitment process
• Serves as the Admissions Counselor for incoming military/veteran students to include reviewing applications, attending recruitment events, and occasionally traveling to veteran related college fairs
• Travel as necessary related to military and veterans outreach efforts
• Works with the offices of Student Success and Student Affairs by helping orient students to university life, monitoring academic progress, and sharing concerns through Navigate
• Recruits, hires, supervises, and supports VA Work Study students
• Manages the campus Veteran Center
• Help to establish a future office of military and veterans’ affairs
• Acts as point of contact for internal customers with military/veteran related questions, and keeps relevant areas apprised of pertinent changes to military policy
• Coordinates and leads meetings for staff involved with supporting military/veteran students
• Serves as the liaison to for both ROTC and SALUTE Honor Society
  Advises the MVUNH (Military Veterans of the University of New Haven) student organization and helps plan both academic and recreational veteran events
• Manages the related military and veteran budgets
• Monitors current legislation and policy changes effecting the military and veteran students
• In conjunction with Student Affairs and the One Stop coordinates outreach plan to maximize communication and support of all students using military/veteran benefits
• Assists with verifying student benefit eligibility, helps students through the benefit application process, updates benefit information on a continuous basis in DOD/VA (VA ONCE) and/or university systems
• Ensures compliance with all VA/DOD and state policies, by collaborating with State Approving Agency (SAA) and Education Liaison Representative (ELR)
• Serves as the backup School Certifying Official with authorization to submit enrollment certification for VA education benefits.
• Responsible for supporting staff, providing resources in order to offer excellent customer service to students, and assisting and coordinating military and veteran’s services on campus
• Support the Office of Enrollment Management in meeting the divisional goals and mission of the University
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the VP for Enrollment and Student Success

SECONDARY DUTIES:

• Help with undergraduate and graduate recruitment efforts as needed
• Support the overall operation of the division of Enrollment and Student Success
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree required plus two to four years of experience in higher education preferred – equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
• Ability to travel on behalf of the University
• Valid driver’s license
• Fully vaccinated
  Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required
• A commitment to enhancing the internal and external customer experience is required
• Professional presentation and demeanor are required
• Experience working in higher education environment is preferred
• Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams is necessary
• The ability to work in a collaborative manner with peers and colleagues is necessary
  The ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to protect sensitive and private information is necessary
  The ability to work independently as well as a member of a team and adhere to deadlines is required
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively contribute as part of a team. Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
• Excellent problem-solving and follow-through skills. Must be dependable, reliable and flexible.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including early morning, evening and weekends is necessary and expected.
