Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Admissions is a creative and knowledgeable professional who works collaboratively with the University community to assist in the planning, development and implementation of recruitment and admission programs. In this leadership position, the Assistant Director will actively contribute to the activities of the department that promote a commitment to the University’s mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(1) Supervise professional and student staff members
(2) Evaluate data from self-initiated and standard enrollment reports to determine actions which will maximize recruitment efforts
(3) Develop, implement and evaluate recruitment and admission events
(4) Develop, implement and evaluate an alumni recruitment program
(5) Initiate and maintain contact with high school counselors, administrators and staff
(6) Supervise the campus visit program
(7) Administer special scholarship programs
(8) Assist in organizing staff travel
(9) Coordinate the admission process for accelerated programs
(10) Assist with recruitment and marketing campaigns
(11) Review academic qualifications and make admissions decisions
(12) Communicate and explain financial aid information to prospective students
(13) Coordinate programs for assigned liaison roles between the Office of Admissions and other Detroit Mercy departments
(14) Collaborate with various University stakeholders during the recruitment and admission process
(15) Recruit at day and evening events as a representative of the University
(16) Work with the Director to refine systems by which to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment programs and processing activities
(17) Foster a spirit of cooperation among all staff members to accomplish common goals and objectives
(18) Contribute to the overall success of Office of Admissions and the University by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed
Requirements
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of progressive admission and recruitment experience preferred. A Master’s degree is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous supervisory experience managing professional and student staff is preferred

- Clear verbal and written abilities with effective interpersonal skills
- Strong public speaker with informative and persuasive speaking skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to accomplish required productivity goals
- Proficiency working in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and social media outlets
- Willingness to acquire an understanding of the Mercy and Jesuit commitment to excellence in education, diversity of the student body, social service, and the liberal arts and sciences traditions. The goals and priorities of a value-centered education must be reflected in any recruitment program and by the presentations of the admissions counselor
- Initiative, imagination and organizational qualities to assist in the development of programs and promote the university to various publics
Physical Requirements
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Privately owned vehicle required for University business
Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience
Anticipated Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
Evenings and Weekends as needed.
