The Assistant Director, Financial Aid Outreach, is responsible for making regular, effective presentations to prospective students, parents, and High School Guidance Communities on the financial aid application process, as well as answer related questions. In addition to duties related to off-site presentations, the Assistant Director, Financial Aid Outreach, in conjunction with the other Financial Aid team members, reviews prospective and returning student case files and works with all populations applying for aid (Graduate, School of Law, Undergraduate Day, Continuing Studies) to advise on financing options and payment plans.
This position balances between working remotely in the field and on the Bristol campus.
Field Presentations & Event Participation
- Travel in the field to various locations to make effective presentations to groups of students and their families.
- Meet with and counsel prospective students and parents regarding the financial aid process, answer questions, and provide general support to the division hosting the event.
- Complete specific project-oriented assignments.
- Develop presentation materials.
- Participate in all University events that require representations from the Department of Financial Aid including but not limited to: Accepted Students Days, Orientations, Open Houses, and Student Recruitment events.
Financial Aid Program Administration - Bristol Campus
- Review all assigned alpha split case files and administer State Grants, Pell Grants, Military Benefits, and Title IV refunds.
- Contact the appropriate State Agency providing students of Roger Williams University with financial assistance.
- Post grants/loans from Financial Aid Package and certify student eligibility. Post refunds to students and parents once eligibility is determined.
- Reconciliation of funds on a monthly basis.
Financial Aid Case Review
- Counsel and advise students and parents on financial aid packages and make recommendations regarding loan programs and all other aspects of the financial aid process.
- Review and verify student financial aid information to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Determine entire financial aid award for each student file in the assigned alpha split case load.
- Counsel new and continuing students and their families regarding financial aid process, financing options, and payment plans, as well as processing federal, state, institutional, and private aid.
- Provide exceptional customer service to current and prospective RWU families and students.
- TE/CIC Liaison for incoming students.
Additional Functions
- Participate in any initiatives for the department and the division, as assigned.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or supervisor's designee.
Job Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or a related field. Or a combination of education and experience appropriate to perform the stated essential job functions.
- Strong presentation experience with a minimum one year of related relevant experience (sales and marketing preferred).
- Ability to travel independently to High Schools and Financial Aid Nights, including nights and weekends.
- Organized and professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively respond to the student's, parent's and educational organizations' questions and statements and to assist the public cooperatively and courteously.
- Ability to work independently with minimum instructions, adhere to prescribed routines and practices, maintain records, and to make reports requiring accuracy.
- Ability to play a key role in bringing new students into programs and provide them with the opportunity to achieve their personal goals.
- Ability to work with families from diverse backgrounds and from varying socio-economic means, in support of the University's strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both written and oral).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable using computer programs, including advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, specifically Excel, as well as comfort using and learning other systems.
- Ability to familiarize yourself with the University's mission, purpose and goals, as well as understand the role of the Financial Aid Counselor in achieving those goals.
- Excellent time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years of financial aid/admissions experience (including internships or work-study).
- Experience with the PowerFAIDS Financial Aid system strongly preferred.
- Bilingual, preferably Spanish
