Oakcrest School, an independent liberal arts school guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, for girls grades 6-12 in Vienna, VA, seeks a Director of College Counseling (full-time position) to guide students and families through the college application process.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in a related field. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented with an interest in working with high school students, their families, college representatives, faculty and administrators. A detail-oriented approach to work and outstanding communication skills including writing, listening, and public speaking The ability to work collaboratively with the administration, faculty, and other key members of the Oakcrest community. The energy, patience, confidence and sense of humor necessary to work effectively with high-school students and their families

Ideal candidates should have extensive experience in selective college admissions and/or college counseling. Candidates should support and have the desire to further the Oakcrest mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities:

Advising students and families as they move through the college research, application, and selection process
Writing letters of recommendation
Reviewing, adjusting, and improving the college counseling program each year.
Planning and presenting on-campus programs and workshops for parents, students and college admissions representatives
Representing Oakcrest at professional organizations including NACAC and PCACAC
Preparing communication to parents in tandem with the communications staff
Overseeing work with seniors through the fall in finalizing college lists and submitting applications
Advising faculty in their writing of college recommendations
Working with school personnel who support the college counseling process, including the Director of Academic Advising, Student Life team, and Athletic Director
Engaging actively in the Oakcrest School community, including attending student performances, athletics events, and social activities
Organizing and implementing Junior and Senior In-house College Application workshops
Administering the PSAT and mock ACT in the fall and serving as AP Coordinator
Working with the Learning Specialist, assisting families in applying for appropriate testing accommodations
