Description: This professional position reports to the Director of First Year Admissions and is responsible for the recruitment of first year students to the College of Arts and Sciences. They represent undergraduate academic programs, admission requirements, and financial aid opportunities to prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and educational advisors. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Admissions and Director of First Year Admissions, the candidate will work with the admissions team to implement recruitment and yield initiatives to meet application and enrollment goals.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Recruitment: - Travel extensively, including weeknights and weekends (approximately 6 weeks in the fall and 3 weeks in the spring) to promote the University of Redlands to prospective first-year students to meet enrollment goals. Travel may extend throughout the United States and abroad.
- Set recruitment goals for assigned region and be innovative and competitive in individual and territorial programming, and share successes with the overall admissions team while being attentive to the cost effectiveness of recruitment activity.
- Manage a geographic territory by creating a recruitment plan, establishing relationships, and enrolling students from assigned territories.
- Analyze and evaluate applications and supporting documents in making admission recommendations.
- Counsel, advise, and maintain positive contact with prospective students and their families regarding academic programs, admissions requirements and procedures, financial aid and scholarships, and student life.
- Present to large and small groups of prospective students, families, high school counselors and educational partners.
- Schedule visits to high schools and community-based organizations. Coordinate pre-visit calls and correspondence, make travel arrangements, conduct information sessions, and follow up with students, faculty, and staff contacted during visits via phone calls, letters, and email.
- Manage and develop recruitment strategies in conjunction with overall recruitment goals; review and analyze data to determine schools, fairs, and events to attend/visit; and review and analyze data to effectively recruit students to meet enrollment goals.
- Establish and maintain relationships with high school guidance counselors and community-based organizations in assigned regions.
- Follow up in a timely manner with internal and external constituents.
- Complete analytical reports and debriefs related to recruitment, travel, and special programs as assigned.
- Utilize technology effectively, including social media, to disseminate information to prospective students and to enhance the efficient functioning of the Office of Admissions.
- Conduct interviews and information sessions on and off campus for prospective students, families, high school visits and special guests.
- Participate and assist with event planning in support of recruitment and yield events such as Discover Redlands, Admitted Students' Day, Spring Fly-in, January Counselor Fly-in, Decemberfest, Admitted Student Area Receptions and other outreach, recruitment and yield activities.
Communication: - Communicate effectively about the value of a liberal arts education.
- Utilize phone, email and written communication to cultivate relationships with prospective students, families, and educational partners through the entire admissions cycle.
- Collaborate with internal communications marketing to design and execute a communication plan.
Office Support and Technology: - Assisting admissions team in primary/secondary duties (phone, email, information sessions, and meetings with families) during select days of the week, including weekends.
- Submitting timely expense reports and tracking expenditures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a professional work setting, ideally in higher education.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that include professional and motivational communication, public speaking, and relationship building.
- Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, pay attention to detail, and produce desired results.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, metric driven and outcomes-based environment.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated success clearly and consistently reporting on programs, tasks and initiatives and following up with internal and external constituents in a timely manner.
- Significant level of independent judgment and autonomy regarding work planning and project completion.
- Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends for recruitment travel activities throughout the year.
- Ability to work with culturally and ethnically diverse populations of prospective students, parents, high school and independent counselors as well as faculty and staff.
- Proficient understanding of technology and computer systems to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), and other Microsoft applications including presentation and web/video conferencing tools.
- Ability to work in a paperless admissions process and to learn new systems to include a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) and institution wide student information systems.
- Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently and on a team.
- Event planning experience.
- A valid driver's license with a good driving record and reliable vehicle is required. Upon offer of employment, a current DMV printout will be required.
