The Office of Admission and Financial Aid seeks an admission counselor to join our team as we advance the mission of Davidson College by enrolling the best and brightest students from around the country and the world. Responsibilities include: recruitment travel, territory
management, public speaking and application review.
The Admission Counselor is part of an energetic team dedicated to informing prospective students, schools, and partner organizations about the Davidson experience and selecting the students who will make up each incoming class. As a member of this team, they are responsible for the cultivation of student interest in Davidson; establishing and maintaining relationships with secondary school and partner organizations in an assigned area; identifying appropriately matched students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic and geographic areas of the country and around the world; and serve as the primary evaluator of student credentials for an assigned area. Will represent the College with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Primary responsibilities
- Manage assigned regional travel territory with the direction of the leadership team. Territory management will include responsibilities, which foster strong relationships between the college and prospective students and constituents: conducting high school visits, attending college fairs, hosting coffees/receptions/events, meeting with counselors and community based organizations, participating in college panels and case study programs, and meeting with alumni. All of this will take place on campus, off campus, and in virtual settings.
- Review applications, evaluating academic and personal characteristics in order to advocate and make proper referrals for the applicant and the college’s enrollment and scholarship goals. Primary responsibility will be to review applications from assigned regional territory, with additional reading assignments as needed. Attend and present applications at committee meetings.
- Host on-campus and virtual information sessions for prospective students and families as well as staffing open house programs and other admission events during business hours and additional weekends and evenings as assigned.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Help with the college’s efforts to identify, recruit, evaluate, and enroll students from traditionally underrepresented groups (including those who identify as low-income, first-generation, rural, or as students of color).
- Respond to all new inquiries quickly and maintain consistent communication with students and other stakeholders throughout the admission process.
- In addition to delivering information sessions and reviewing applications, the Admission Counselor will have additional responsibilities in the office. Possibilities may include working with current students and alumni volunteers, social media initiatives, admission event planning, data management, athletic/arts recruitment, visit team, scholarship programs, and more.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a valid United States driver's license. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. The successful candidate should have excellent demonstrated abilities to: communicate verbally and in writing, organize activities and projects, and work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience in undergraduate admissions as an admissions counselor, admissions intern and/or admissions tour guide employee
