The Director of Admissions – Florida is responsible for coordinating the University’s admission and recruitment activities including overall planning, management, and administration and will focus on influencing both the character and the size of the student body. The Director will lead a university-wide effort to expand our footprint in Florida and will improve institutional practices in ways, which positively influence college choice, transition to college and student centeredness. Strategic planning and best practice research will inform this activity. The primary work site will be located in either Pasco County, Florida or St. Petersburg, Florida.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversees planning and evaluation processes for the University’s Florida recruitment and admissions programs.
- Works cooperatively with the Directors of Academic Operations at each of the Florida sites as well as other senior staff, faculty, and administrators in planning and implementing enrollment planning strategies.
- Assist with market research to determine institutional reputation; position the University effectively, and match student demand to curricular offerings that are consistent with institutional mission.
- Works directly with and oversees the admissions staff to develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan to meet the University’s Florida enrollment goals.
- Participates and engages with the SVP team and the marketing partner who will oversee the out-of-home and digital marketing opportunities.
- Works with the Director of Student Financial Services to develop policies to maximize revenue and enhance student persistence and student centeredness.
- Organizes admissions events, including Open House programs, assists with summer orientation, transfer day, Summer Preview Days, accepted Student Days, Saturday visits, high school break weeks and junior open house events, and other promotional events.
- Actively engages with community partners to showcase the University, its students, and outcomes to generate leads and increase partnerships.
- Works to encourage parents and alumni to take an active interest in the University and the admissions process.
- Maintain inventories of publications, reviews Admissions social media efforts and strategy, and assists with the maintenance of Admissions page on the University website.
- Coordinates effective communication with high schools and community colleges.
- Accepts primary responsibility for developing and testing recruitment publications in the Florida market.
- Supervises the application and selection process for the Florida campuses.
- Represents the University at school visits and admissions receptions and speaks at professional associations and civic gatherings. Establishes effective outreach to corporate community to assess need for and help build employee talent pool that meets industry demand.
- Works with the Office of International Programs to coordinate the recruitment and matriculation of international students.
- Handles direct recruitment which includes travel, telecounseling, interviews, follow-up contacts, attending college information programs, high school and community college visits, coordinates and develops on and off campus programs, conducts Saturday information sessions and participates in other promotional events.
- Ensures that Florida admissions, recruitment, financial aid policies and practices to ensure that the highest ethical standards are maintained.
- Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
- Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment Management.
- This position requires frequent travel.
Supervises:
- This position oversees the admissions counselors and the assistant directors of admission and co-supervises the student experience coordinators (administrative assistants).
- Staff is based at each of the Florida locations.
Requirements:
- Have attained a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with 7 – 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of admissions, financial aid and enrollment management. Master’s degree preferred.
- Incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record (as defined by University insurance carrier guidelines).
The Director of Admissions – Florida will inspire trust and confidence and possess the knowledge and skills to lead the University to establishing an overall exciting and effective Florida admissions program.
The Director will:
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Be a proactive leader in undergraduate admissions;
- Possess a high level of knowledge and skills in every aspect of enrollment management, including financial aid, retention, data analysis, market research, and computer software;
- Have the ability to advise the graduate area on emerging strategies for graduate recruitment;
- Have knowledge of international recruiting;
- Have “hands on experience” with the day-to-day operations of admissions;
- Must be able to work flexible hours if necessary.
