Provide students with opportunities to explore and learn about a variety of post-secondary choices following their graduation from high school or the MBS postgraduate program. Assist students and parents in the college application and admissions process, and help students gain a better awareness of the supports and resources they will need following high school.

Responsibilities

Transition and Post Secondary Facilitation

o Meet with students to explore, educate, and discuss the transition process in an effort to ensure students understand the process, raise awareness of goals and personal paths, and be attuned with what supports they may need in the post-secondary setting.

o Coordinate and plan phone conferences and meeting with parents and students to discuss post-secondary options and action steps.

o With the registrar, ensure that transcripts and supporting documents are sent to post-secondary institutions in a timely manner.

o Submit other supporting educational documents including neuropsychological evaluations., ACT/SAT, IEPs, etc.

o Write letters of recommendation.

o Review letters of recommendation from other MBS staff.

o Work with the remedial program, post-graduate director, internship director, and/or other teachers in support of students through their transitioning planning

Research, collect, and disseminate information on (LD and Appropriate) Postsecondary Programs

o Establish and maintain relationships with key college admissions personnel.

o Update, edit and publish MBS transition packet, which includes program and contact information on a number of transition programs, as well as post-secondary process and timeline

o Collect and store admission material from selected colleges.

o Schedule opportunities for students to meet college admission counselors on or off campus.

o Visit college campuses with students.

o Visit and tour college and post-secondary programs throughout the school year (10-15 schools)

o Organize LD College Fair every two years.

Transition SEI Curriculum Class

o Develop and implement the Transition SEI. class curriculum

o Teach and/or oversee classes

o Curriculum should include lessons on the following topics: potential paths following high school, researching and identifying colleges, how is MBS different than college, college applications, essay writing, acquiring college recommendations, increasing student awareness of the support they need and their learning difference

o Support students following their acceptances to schools. Guide them in comparing and contrasting schools, signing up for college orientations/course registrations/summer programs, and registering for accommodations and LD services.

o Provide college course support for students enrolled in classes. Reinforce good study strategies and the support they need to be successful.

Transition Seminar

o Develop and implement the Transition Seminar class curriculum

o Teach and/or oversee classes

o Begin communicating with Junior families and students and outline transition planning

Alumni Communication and Support

o Communicate, check in, and visit MBS alumni at their post-secondary placement

o Provide support and guidance to alumni and families

o Document and publish alumni news, honors, and accomplishments to the MBS community.
