The Office of Admissions has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director, International Recruitment to lead and manage the international recruitment strategy including management of one admissions counselor and one student employee. The Assistant Director works as part of a team to enable the university to meet undergraduate, international enrollment goals; leads the international holistic review, manages a recruitment territory, reviews student applications and represents the University to internal and external audiences.
The Assistant Director must be flexible and have the drive to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are essential, as are strong public speaking skills and the ability to represent the University in a positive way to diverse audiences. Must be comfortable with technology and have familiarity with Google drive, spreadsheets and database software tools. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
The Assistant Director is a member of the recruitment and communication leadership team that plans, oversees, executes and evaluates recruitment initiatives and strategy. The Assistant Director must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
The University seeks to maintain (with aspirations of increasing) the yield of both resident and non-resident admits, while simultaneously maintaining (or increasing) the diversity and profile of the freshman class. This position is critical in developing and implementing an international recruitment strategy that ensures the plan aligns with our target market priority.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
International Admissions Oversight and Leadership - Manage the International freshman application review process. Hire, train, supervise and oversee the ongoing professional development of one international admission counselor. Cross-train the domestic admissions counseling team on the international application process.
International Admissions Representative - Represent the University both on and off campus to prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and other influencers. Plan and implement recruitment activities for target markets, including traveling to locations throughout the U.S. and world to represent the UW; Counsel prospective international freshman, international transfer, and postbaccalaureate students; responding to admissions inquiries via phone, email, appointments (both in person and virtual) and drop-ins;
International Communication - Collaborate with the Associate Director and Communications team to inform the communication strategy for web, print, and e-communications including guidance counselor, parent and prospective student communication plans.
International Recruitment Strategy - Support the Associate Director in the development, implementation and coordination of a macro international recruitment strategy. Including analyzing, assigning and evaluating international markets and utilizing recruitment data and software to formulate and implement the strategy.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience. At least three years of cumulative work experience. Supervisory experience. Experience supervising temporary, and/or student staff will be considered. Demonstrated experience in the development and management of international recruitment initiatives. Proven track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with campus partners, global organizations and international student communities. Demonstrated success with data informed recruitment strategies. Experience counseling international applicants on the college admission process. Demonstrated commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience recruiting, hiring, training and leading a diverse staff. Strong level of comfort with CRM technology and making data informed decisions. Involvement in international professional organizations. Masters degree in Business, Education, Communication, Organizational Leadership, Student Development, Higher Education, International Studies or similar.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Office setting on the Seattle campus with occasional telework option. The position requires a significant amount of time at a work station, in addition to presenting and attending college fairs and visiting high schools (up to three hours in some cases). This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends; travel throughout the U.S. and internationally; and load and transport materials, displays, and other equipment (up to 50 lbs).
