Under the direction of the Associate Director/Director of Admissions, the Assistant Director is responsible for implementing enrollment management best practices and office operations to meet the University's enrollment goals, University product knowledge, and effective sales and service techniques. The position is responsible for the outreach and recruitment activities, student interviews and counseling, and admission file review for graduate student populations, and undergraduate populations as assigned. The successful candidate will be an individual with a friendly, engaging personality, a positive attitude and a passion for the work, and be customer service-oriented, with demonstrated persistence, commitment, and ability to motivate others.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating recruitment strategies for graduate students, as well as first-time freshmen and transfer students, as needed.
Partners with graduate program directors and other student services staffs to support students from inquiry through matriculation; serves on enrollment-related committees and projects, as assigned
Plans, coordinates and participates in recruitment/admission programs, yield events, and information sessions.
Clearly, accurately, and enthusiastically articulates information about the University and its programs, admission criteria, cost of attendance and aid. Assess individual student needs and, through multi-channel approaches, develops tactics to provide students with essential information.
Responsible for successfully moving students through stages of admission funnel, evaluates applications, processes admissions materials, makes recommendations regarding admissions and scholarship on behalf of the University, and captures all information accurately into USJ's database.
Represents the University with the highest degree of professionalism through an array of outreach, programs and activities, including orientation programs
Travel required to local and regional recruitment and admission functions: some early morning, evenings, and weekends, as assigned.
1-3 years of experience of experience in higher education in the areas of enrollment management, recruitment, admission, marketing or related experience required.
Database management and technology experience in higher education and familiarity with best practices required. Experience with Slate, Jenzabar EX preferred.
Prior experience in sales or customer service in a fast-paced environment preferred.
Some travel, evening and weekend work required.
Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation with the ability to convey and obtain information amongst a variety of audiences such as students, business partners, alumni and staff.
Well-organized, accurate, effective, and creative multi-tasker, time-manager, problem solver, and "people person" who is also customer service-oriented and pays attention to detail, is able to prioritize and manage complex projects and priorities, and works with a sense of urgency.
Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team in a fast-paced, customer service environment with patience; flexibility; a positive attitude; and strong organizational, file management, analytical, decision-making, interpersonal, diplomatic, negotiation, leadership, sales, and customer service skills.
Able to prioritize, balance, and manage a high volume of work and complex projects and initiatives.
Proficient computer skills, including working with Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet, and other programs as needed. Familiarity with specific applications used by the University and the Office of Admissions a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and to work comfortably with students, colleagues, and internal and external constituents, including diverse populations
Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance and the ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff, and administration and to professionally represent the University to the public.
Demonstrated ability to recognize and appropriately handle matters of a confidential nature.

The anticipated salary for this position is $40,000 to $43,000 for the Admissions Counselor position; $49,000 to $54,000 for the Assistant Director position. The final offer will be based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
This position has a standard office environment. Evening and weekend hours may be required on a regular basis, particularly during periods of high activity. Ability to travel and attend off-site events is required.
