Bard College seeks an Admission Counselor responsible for representing the college to multiple constituencies, including prospective students and their families, Bard Alumni/ae, and school/community contacts. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Admission, this representative engages in recruiting initiatives and follow-up to meet application and enrollment goals, focusing on Pacific Northwest regions and other select neighboring regions as assigned. This is a full-time, year-round, benefit-eligible position.
The Admission Counselor manages planning and follow-up of recruitment activities including high/secondary school visits, college fairs, prospective family and counselor receptions, admitted student and family events and individual meetings and interviews for assigned geographic areas. Secondary responsibilities include new recruitment program development and implementation, and other duties as assigned.
This Admission Counselor must live in or near primary regions of the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, WA or Portland, OR). Admission Counselors are often required to train onsite at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY at the beginning of their appointment for a period of 6-12 months. This representative is responsible for travel and recruitment primarily within Oregon, Washington and Idaho and will occasionally travel within and read applications from the areas of Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Nebraska and the Canadian province of British Columbia. Additional travel and application reading support beyond these regions may be assigned as needed.
Essential Duties
Travel for up to 20 weeks out of the year covering school visits, college fairs, prospective and admitted student events (sometimes coordinated with Alumni/ae Affairs and Development and other Bard College Offices)
Fall recruitment takes place from September through November (sometimes starting in August) and spring recruitment takes place from March through May with occasional travel for fairs, trainings and conferences during the summer months
Represent Bard College at high/secondary school visits, college fairs, community college visits, counselor functions, alumni/ae receptions, and to community-based organizations
Plan, develop, and implement outreach and recruitment activities to meet undergraduate enrollment goals
Meet with and advise prospective students and their families about the college selection process and provide information about opportunities available to them at Bard
Conduct interviews for prospective students
Manage recruitment-related correspondence (emails, letters, phone calls) with students and their families as well as school counselors and teachers from designated recruitment regions. Initiate outreach and recruitment messages and respond to requests for information about Bard College programs, application status, and other information essential to the college selection and admission processes
Represent Bard College at networking events and conferences
Participate in office trainings
Participate in on-campus programs such as the Immediate Decision Plan and Admitted Students Day and as directed
Attend workshop days and case study events at the request of individual high/secondary schools
Coordinate events with Alumni/ae Affairs
Support international students throughout the application process by coordinating communication to international students (website, email, Bard portal) with colleagues who share international regions, the communications team, and the senior leadership team
Coordinate with the Office of International Students and Scholar Services (OISSS) to support international students with visa application questions, travel to campus and enrollment processes
Assist the Senior Leadership Team with special projects and tasks as assigned
Bachelor's degree
Professional experience in Higher Education for at least a year, preferably as an Admission Counselor
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
Ease in using and learning technology for communication, record keeping, and management of data
Self-motivated with ability to function independently
Good writing, communication, and time management skills
Highly organized
Travel experience
Ability to organize trips, buy tickets, make hotel reservations, and coordinate travel plans
Ability to work some irregular hours and travel on occasional nights and weekends
Experience in working in Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite Programs
Knowledge of Technolutions Slate is ideal
Spanish language skills are ideal
Driver's license in good standing
Ability to lift packages and boxes of up to 30 pounds in transporting material for travel.
