Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Admissions provides support to the Office of J.D. Admissions in the overall execution of strategic departmental and institutional enrollment. This person represents St. John's University School of Law to the public and markets the mission and vision of the university to prospective students.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Admissions (J.D.) and will execute student recruitment on-campus, student recruitment off-campus, help with housing, and support the deferral and scholarship reconsideration processes. The Assistant Director will also help with the transfer and visitor application process. The Assistant Director will share responsibility for reviewing 1L applications and serve as a personal admission counselor for a portion of our applicant pool.
Essential Functions:
As part of a proactive recruitment team, the Assistant Director will help develop and utilize recruitment strategies to achieve enrollment goals.
Manage prescribed recruitment functions as designated by the Director of Admissions.
This position will have responsibility for application oversight, recruiting, interviewing and evaluating prospective students. This includes helping to coordinate the admissions process; cultivating and nurturing pre-law advisors and other partners; attending recruitment fairs and events; and actively managing a personal contact campaign via multiple mediums to assure exceptional service.
Help plan and execute on-campus admission events, including tours, open houses, mock classes, a tri-state law fair, and at least two full-day admitted student programs. Coordinate speakers, rooms, food, RSVPs, case materials and more for programs in advance.
Email, meet with, and arrange visits and tours. Serve as the point person to address all of their needs through the admissions cycle. Lead tours as needed.
Post and coordinate class visit opportunities every semester.
Perform website updates for relevant sections of the law school site as directed.
Review and make recommendations on a portion of the applicant pool.
Serve as a personal admission counselor to a portion of our applicant pool.
Travel to represent the School of Law at a significant number of recruitment events.
Suggest and implement new outreach efforts to meet prospective students, including professionals who may not be in a pre-law pipeline.
Serve as the housing liaison for all admitted students with on- and off-campus housing options. Coordinate efforts to provide accurate and timely information from Residential Life.
Helps track and coordinates all outbound email communication for the Office of Admission.
Working with the Office of Marketing and Communications, serves as the lead person overseeing the production of print publications, editing content for web/social/print for the admissions office.
Evaluate transcripts and international records for eligibility. Research foreign education systems as needed and analyze academic records from foreign secondary and tertiary institutions.
Advise international students on immigration matters and monitor international student progress with ISSO.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of at least two years of admissions experience in higher education.
Demonstrated written communication skills to compose and edit clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence. Public speaking ability required.
Skill and sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion as they affect the law school admissions process; a demonstrated commitment to building a strong and diverse applicant pool.
Strong technological skills (preferably experience in Banner system, ACES/Unite, Access database). Experience with Excel.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required, including work with diverse people and dynamic situations.
Attention to detail required.
Strong problem-solving skills. Advanced organizational, time management and process management skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage large programs/projects and comfort working across high-functioning teams.
The ability to use sound judgment in all situations and discretion with confidential data required.
Travel required (local and out-of-state) during the fall recruitment season.
Occasional weekend and evening hours required.
Valid U.S. driver's license required.
Supervisory Responsibility

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $69,400 - $72,300.
