The Admission Counselor will recruit students locally and nationally and will participate in the evaluation and selection process. This position requires a high-level of energy to manage the workload and travel, the ability to learn new things quickly and work independently with limited structure, managing unexpected events and interacting with and counseling young adults. Must be a comfortable public speaker and a strong proponent of a liberal arts education.
- Assist in the development of strategies for recruiting new students, including conducting research on admission trends and best practices, and consolidating information into suggestions for new ideas for marketing, programs, or other relevant activities.
- Travel within a defined territory to visit high schools, attend college fairs and conduct special programs (approximately 8 weeks per year). Manage receipts and prepare travel reports to meet College policies and deadlines.
- Interview and counsel applicants and their families.
- Conduct daily information sessions for prospective students and their families.
- Read and evaluate applications and actively participate in the committee process to select candidates for admission.
- Initiate correspondence and complete arrangements in connection with the above responsibilities.
- May, as needed, participate in campus committees related to admission activities.
- May coordinate one or more admission office programs, and assist in others, under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Admission.
- Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.

Basic Qualifications: Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably from Pitzer College, The Claremont Colleges or another selective liberal arts program. Must have at least two full years of experience working in Admission or a closely related field; work experience during college/university studies as a Student Ambassador, Tour Guide, RA, Orientation Leader or other similar student position may count towards experience requirement.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Very strong public speaking, writing and communication skills in English.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while satisfying expectations and deadlines.
- Very strong interpersonal and networking skills, including an ability to be engaging and adept in interact with a diverse population of multiple constituents on- and off-campus, and convey a passion for Pitzer College.
- Ability to be proactive and work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience using office automation.
- Working knowledge of social media and recent versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to drive to off campus locations.
- Ability to travel nationally for weeks at a time.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed for travel and special events.
- Must have access to reliable and secure computer and internet connection. Must maintain password protection for work files and records and ensure that no one else has access to password and login credentials at remote work site.
- Must have access to a dedicated and suitable workstation at remote location, including desk or table and supporting, upright chair. Must ensure workstation is safe and free from hazards.

Licenses/Certifications: Must have, or obtain, and maintain a valid California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the College’s insurer.
Supervisory Responsibility: May supervise up to 10 student employees.
Time Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Annual Pay Schedule: 11 months per year (August to June)
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week for 11 months per year from August to June (FTE: 92%); off for the month of July. The regular hours for this position are scheduled between 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work will be required, including local and national travel. These hours may vary due to needs of the College or department.

Budgeted Salary: $5, 375.00 per month (11 months)

Physical Requirements: This is generally a sedentary position. Must be able to:
- Sit for prolonged periods of time;
- Operate a computer for prolonged periods of time;
- Communicate with others by email, in person and over the telephone; Read printed materials and a computer screen;
- Have the mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment;
- Assist with the set-up and teardown of event tables, signage and other materials.
- Requires reaching overhead, grasping, pulling, pushing, stooping, bending, and twisting;
- Lift 15 pounds from the ground to waist level unassisted; and
- Have the stamina to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced work environment.
