The University of Minnesota Morris Student Success Center is seeking a 100% time Transfer Pathway Navigator to support students transferring to UMN Morris for BA degree attainment. The Transfer Pathway Navigator reports to the Director of the Student Success Center. The majority of the appointment (75%) is dedicated to providing robust services for new transfer students, facilitating successful transitions to the UMN Morris community, and supporting students’ persistence and success with support from the UMN Morris Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions cooperative grant. A portion of the appointment (25%) is institutionally supported and facilitates transfer student admissions. The position includes some travel and night and weekend hours.
As Transfer Pathway Navigator, work with Transfer Student Services partners to develop and implement a robust program for transfer student support - 25%
Coordinate programs and services to provide structure and support for transfer students
Participate in and share information on webinars, professional development, and opportunities to build a more inclusive, transfer-friendly campus
Assist with development and dissemination of UMN Morris liberal arts major, minor, and program information
Serve as a Success Coach for new transfer students
Assist in facilitating Welcome Week activities and other events
Work with offices to improve transfer student communication flow
Coordinate program documentation and assessment. Improve programs based on assessment
As Transfer Pathway Navigator, support development of collaborative community college–UMN Morris relationships - 25%
Foster successful relationships with community colleges to help potential transfer students match their education and interests to UMN Morris programs
Assist in planning and hosting community college partner visits
Assist with developing and disseminating academic program transfer pathway information
Support development and implementation of community college articulation agreements/ memoranda of understanding
Visit community colleges to answer questions, help transfer students navigate options and processes, and plan for a successful transition
Work with community college student support offices for student communication and support
As Transfer Pathway Navigator, collaborate with the NASS Associate Director and Transfer Pathway Navigator to create a positive climate of belonging for Native American transfer students - 25%
Support development of collaborative Tribal college–UMN Morris relationships. Participate in visits to Tribal College Partners’ campuses. Assist in hosting Tribal college teams traveling to UMN Morris. Create welcoming, effective experiences
Meet with the NASS tribal college pathway team as needed
Support student participation in NASS cultural programs (i.e., cultural craft nights, ceremonies, elders- and aunties- in- residence series, mental health and wellbeing programs)
Support planning, communication, and implementation of a summer transfer pathway program.
As Transfer Admissions Counselor, recruit, and support the successful matriculation of, transfer students and others to UMN Morris - 25%
Regularly travel to Minnesota and regional community colleges and Tribal colleges to cultivate relationships with transfer advisors and interested students. Represent UMN Morris at college fairs. Engage and provide prospective transfer students with campus information and literature. Coordinate follow up with student contacts
Participate in campus visit days
Recruit and build effective relationships with prospective students through text, phone, e-mail, social media, print publications, personalized letters, and other communications
Review transfer applications, transcripts, and related supplemental documents. Make admission and academic scholarship recommendations
Native American Student Success and Transfer Pathway Navigation is supported in part by the University of Minnesota Morris US Department of Education Title III Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions grant through September 2025. The university intends to apply for future funding.
Background and experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree
Experience working with Native American students, low-income students, students at academic risk, and/or first-generation students
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations and the ability to contribute to the UMN Morris commitment to a diverse, inclusive learning environment
Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to the value of a liberal arts and sciences education
Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Valid driver’s license
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree from UMN Morris
Successful relationships across the UMN campus to support student success
Experience as a tribal and/or transfer college student
Experience or coursework in Education, Native American and Indigenous Studies, Human Services, and/or Communications, Media, and Rhetoric
Skills and experience in communication, public speaking, organization, program planning, and/or data management
Background that includes overcoming barriers similar to those of participants
