Position Focus: Responsible for admissions activity in a fixed geographical area under the supervision of the Senior Associate Director of Admissions. Serve as a central member of Admissions Committee; as a member of the Admissions Office senior staff, provide leadership to one or more office teams and handle significant additional responsibilities. These will include, but are not limited to: managing, coordinating and participating in special programs and projects within the Admissions Office; giving public presentations at secondary schools and regional locations in order to promote Yale to prospective applicants; advising secondary school counselors, applicants and parents on the application process; coordinating alumni recruiting activities in assigned geographical area; serving as a liaison with organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process. Evening and weekend work is expected during peak application reading and travel seasons.
Evaluates admissions applications, interviews prospective applicants, and independently assesses each application against a variety of factors, including the applicant's strength, weaknesses, and potential contribution to the Yale community. Determines applicant's standing within local, national and international applicant pools. Presents applicant recommendations to admissions committee. Briefs admissions committee about applicants and about schools and geographical regions as they relate to the evaluation of applicant files. Determines which applicants will be waitlisted. Serve as full voting member of Admissions Committee and recommend students for admission to Yale College. May serve as a committee chair in a future admissions cycle. Supervise and mentor Assistant Directors and Senior Assistant Directors of Admission throughout the year as a team and project leader. Manage, coordinate, and participate in special programs and projects in collaboration with university partners. Evening and weekend work is expected during peak application reading and travel seasons.

Essential Duties: 1. Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. 2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. 3. Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. 4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. 6. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. 7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in related field and six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Ability to review and assess a high volume of online applications. Strong time management skills and proven ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Excellent analytical skills, and creative self-direction. Exceptional administrative, planning, organizational and project management skills.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated excellence in public presentation. Superior writing, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse constituency, including students, faculty, alumni, fellow admissions officers, counselors and administrative staff.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Knowledge of the application process at a highly selective college or university.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Demonstrated ability with Slate or other CRM.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Eight years admissions experience at a selective college or university.
