The Assistant Director (AD) for Admissions serves a vital role as recruiter, admissions counselor, and project manager within the Office of Admissions. ADs may supervise a team of student workers and oversee a specific area within the Office of Admissions such as specialized student recruitment, outreach and communication, residency coordination, and data analysis and operations. This position, which requires fluency in both English and Spanish, serves as an official representative of Towson University at college fairs, high school visits, and other recruitment activities within an assigned territory. As a member of the Freshman Admissions Team, the selected individual aids in the successful strategic planning and recruitment of qualified students from inside and outside the state of Maryland, and will be responsible for reviewing admission applications, providing information concerning the University to prospective students and their families, assisting with various marketing activities, and developing relationships with school counselors, TU alumni, local communities, and other external constituents.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Responsibilities and Duties
Counsel, build relationships, and be the main TU representative for prospective students. Assist students through the college search process, application process, financial aid, career exploration, and other ways to positively influence students to choose TU as a college destination. Represent TU by providing excellent customer service and answer questions via phone, email, and in-person and virtual meetings. Understand admissions policies and requirements to ensure success within freshman admissions. Deliver information in both English and Spanish.
Manage specific recruitment territories and student populations. Conduct in-state high visits, college fairs, and specific community events. Plan and execute off-campus college planning and prep workshops and plan on-campus events to showcase TU’s highlights as a diverse and welcoming community.
Assist with marketing campaigns and personalized outreach campaigns via phone, email, text, notes, events, etc. Actively participate in open houses and other TU recruitment/yield events. Develop a specific territory outreach plan to proactively contact prospective students and their families in both English & Spanish. Assist with occasional Spanish-language translation and accommodation requests.
Develop relationships with high school counselors, TU alumni, and community-based organizations to enhance TU’s network and brand.
Evaluate freshman student applications for admission and scholarship awards to Towson University through a holistic review process. Assist with the review of transfer applications as needed.
Utilize data and enrollment trends to develop a recruitment and outreach strategy. Complete a territory report and analysis to assist with recruitment & outreach efforts. Utilize internal and external data to enhance territory management and stay on top of higher education trends in your territory.
Complete general admissions duties including, but not limited to, customer service, applicant processing, holistic review, on-campus events, special projects, campus committees, and any other duties as assigned as needed to meet the needs of enrollment and the goals of the university.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required; the degree must be conferred before starting the position.
Must possess a valid US Driver's License.
At least one year of professional work experience is required. Prior experience within a college admissions office, as an orientation leader, or as a tour guide, is helpful but not required.
Competitive candidates will have additional years of professional experience in a college admissions office, and specific experience delivering admissions counseling in both English and Spanish.
Candidates must be bilingual in Spanish and English, with proficient Spanish language skills.
In addition, the position requires excellent overall communication skills: oral, written, and interpersonal, as well as the ability to present to small and large groups of people in various types of venues. Must pay attention to detail and possess strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to travel independently and on short notice. The successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic who is interested in and attentive to diversity and cross-cultural communication, and who actively contributes to the office welfare in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently. The familiarity and use of technology are critical to the success of this position and the overall operation of the Office of University Admissions.
