The Admissions Counselor is a member of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Office of Admissions, Student Life, and Inclusivity (OASI) and will support the operational activities associated with daily operations of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program admissions cycle under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Admissions; including but not limited to, working in the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) system, support academic review, which includes Grade Point Averages (GPAs) calculations, file review of applications, drafting and sending applicant communications, offer letters, waitlist processes, denial letters, and assist responding to shared admissions email inbox and phone calls. On occasion the successful candidate will communicate with parents and prospective applicants. In addition, this position assists and organizes interview and visit days for DVM applicants, assist with data analysis and reporting for the admissions process and incoming classes and regularly attends Committee on Student Admissions (CSA) meetings to provide updates and input on processes and policies.
The successful candidate will assist in the training of temporary employees that support with file review; works cooperatively/collaboratively with other Admissions Counselors, Admissions Officers, Academic Advisors, Faculty, Staff and Alums. The role serves as a resource person to the Assistant Director of Admissions as well as being an integral part of the OASI team and supporting for events and projects within OASI and CVM. The successful candidate should anticipate some required evening/weekend hours.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in admissions, counseling, public relations, student services or related area, including implementing programs and schedules, making formal presentations, and working with the public; experience with database, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; may require conversational proficiency in a foreign language.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree related to higher education, student affairs, communications, or related field; demonstration of healthy, collaborative work relationships with college/university department staff/faculty/students; excellent reading speed and comprehension; ability to analyze data and make recommendations; experience with prioritizing workflow; effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills; willingness to learn the Veterinary Medical Colleges Application Services (VMCAS front end), and the back end or WebAdMIT; a minimum of one year experience in student services at the college/university level; demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
