Position Summary:
The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the outreach, recruitment, and counseling of prospective students in the San Luis Valley and the South-Central Colorado territories. Responsibilities include representing Adams State University at college fairs, high school visits, and other on and off campus activities. This position will serve and work extensively with the 14 San Luis Valley High Schools and will also serve schools outside of the San Luis Valley. The Admissions Counselor will maintain communication with prospective students and families, review admissions applications, coordinate recruitment events, establish and foster relationships with high school counselors, and provide broad admissions, financial aid and academic advising services. In state and out-of-state travel as well as the ability to work some evenings and weekends is required.
Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)
Counseling prospective students throughout the admissions process
Attend and represent Adams State University at college fairs, day/night programs, student conferences, and other outreach activities.
Organize and conduct visits and classroom presentations to high schools’ students in the San Luis Valley and South-Central Colorado
Develops relationships with key stakeholders at high schools within assigned territories to assist prospective students with the admissions, financial aid and housing processes.
Maintains telephone, email, digital and written communications with prospective students and their parents, including utilizing non-conventional methods to connect with and attract prospective students
Advise students on degree options, course selection, placement test interpretation, and other advising related matters.
Partner with departments across campus including financial aid, academic areas, housing and athletics to assist students in the admissions process
Provides informative and appropriate financial aid counseling regarding federal and state financial aid, institutional and private scholarship opportunities and student financial services
Coordinates and promotes special events related to Adams State University and the admissions process, including but not limited to counselor breakfasts/luncheons, application days, financial aid nights, registration activities, student receptions, and campus visits.
Participates and assists with the planning of on and off campus recruitment activities, including Discover Day programs, Grizz Bizz days, group visits, New Student Orientation and other selected programs.
Evaluate recruitment activities and report outcomes to the assistant director of admissions recruitment.
Participates in on-campus training sessions and planning and all campus meetings.
Represents Adams State University in various state and regional professional organizations and committees.
Assists in the development of admissions social media, publications, and marketing materials.
Maintain current education of NCAA rules to cooperate with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of NCAA rules violations.
Serves as a Campus Security Authority, as federally mandated under the Cleary Act.
Serves in other capacities as assigned by the supervisor.
Utilizing Workday to monitor admissions application status and set appointments with Academic Advisors
Meet with prospective students before on-campus tours to answer questions and show the Adams State admissions presentation.
Prepare approval request for all recruiting events and travel one month in advance
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Experience developing goals/objectives.
Ability to communicate effectively utilizing both oral and written communications in a professional manner.
Demonstrate technology proficiency with various software applications.
Strong organizational skills including an ability to multitask.
Experience working with diverse, non-traditional, and underserved student populations in a compassionate and structured manner.
Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegially with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.
Experience managing professional social media accounts.
This position requires travel in and around the San Luis Valley and other territories as assigned by the Assistant Director of recruitment. Some travel will require overnight stays. Requiring flexible work hours.

Some travel will require overnight stays. Work hours are required to be flexible as early morning, evening, and weekend work may be necessary.

The salary range for this position is $38,412-$43,692.
