The Admission Counselor for Diversity Recruitment is responsible for representing and presenting Morgan State?s academic programs to prospective students, parents, teachers, and counselors regionally and nationally. They must have the ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds and a variety of interpersonal skills to interact appropriately in situations ranging from large meetings to individual appointments.
Admission Counselors are also responsible for recruiting talented undergraduate students, overseeing admissions files, and reviewing completed applications for admission into Morgan State. Counselors are expected to attend local, state, and national college fairs and assist in the planning and execution of both on and off-campus recruitment events.
Counselors must have the ability to work independently, meet assignment deadlines, and set priorities that accurately reflect the importance of duties. Admissions Counselors need to display strong writing, editing, presentation, and computer skills. This position requires travel in the fall and spring as well as some evenings and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Territory Management and Prospective Student Recruitment
Manages assigned recruitment territory and develops relationships with key stakeholders.
Identifies, recruits, and enrolls prospective students in an assigned territory; uses past data to plan and arrange all phases of travel.
Develops relationships with students, parents and high school counselors. Assists in facilitating partnerships to academic and non-academic campus partners.
Manages recruitment activities including, but not limited to: high school visits, attendance at college fairs, home visits, campus visits, telecounseling, written correspondence, and supports financial aid discussions where applicable.
Recommends and implements strategies to meet enrollment goals pertaining to diversity (geographic, race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, etc.) for freshmen.
Accommodates special requests by high schools and colleges, and assists in the planning and execution of campus events, reception functions, and other recruitment initiatives, both on and off campus.
Utilizes phone, email, and mail to communicate with prospective students in a timely manner, providing excellent student service.
May assist with the recruitment of transfer and non-traditional students where needed.
Application Review and Admission Counseling
Assists with the evaluation of admission files in partnership with the admissions operations team.
Counsel students and review their portfolios in order to offer advice on their work. Provide counsel also to parents and high school counselors about admission requirements, the application process, and academic opportunities at Morgan State.
Track applicants through the enrollment funnel (from inquiry to matriculation).
Assist in scheduling campus visits for students, groups, and high school counselors.
Maintain awareness and a general understanding of departments and resources within the college and respond to questions about Morgan State University, Baltimore City, and its proximity to the surrounding states.
Work Environment:
This is a fast-paced, high-volume operation; team collaboration is essential to the success of the role.
Requires weekend and evening hours, sometimes with short notice.
This position maintains an office on campus and is expected to report to that location daily - unless facilitating recruitment activities off-campus.
This position reports directly to the Director of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment.
