Senior Admissions Counselor, Carlson School of Management

Summary of Position:

The Undergraduate Office of Admissions is seeking a highly motivated, focused, and results-oriented Senior Admissions Counselor who will serve as a key contact for prospective students interested in the Carlson School of Management. This position represents the University of Minnesota and the Carlson School of Management to prospective students, prospective student families, and high school officials in while providing customer service to prospective students from a variety of geographical locations. 

This is a 100%, full-time, 12-month, on-campus, annually renewable appointment in the academic professional and administrative (P&A) personnel series. Most work is conducted during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. However, evening and weekend work is occasionally required, as necessary, to properly execute the duties of this role. Occasional remote work may be accommodated at the discretion of the Office of Admissions when such remote work is in the interest of the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Freshman Recruitment & Outreach (50%)

• Serve as the face of the Carlson School for prospective first-year students interested in pursuing business majors at the U of M.
• Recruit and facilitate enrollment of high-achieving and prospective Carlson School of Management students. 
• Participate and assist with the execution of Carlson School recruitment via targeted calling campaigns to encourage students to attend on-campus events and visits.

Campus Visit Coordination (20%)

• Proactively plan and execute specialized visits to create a memorable experience for high-achieving students by following a strategic visit model created by the Office of Admissions and the Carlson School of Management.
• Collaborate with the Carlson School to plan, facilitate, and execute campus visits for students interested in business programs.
• Engage and utilize the Carlson Ambassador program to assist with on-campus visits, specialized experiences, and recruitment.

Application Review & Office of Admissions Support (15%)

• Provide admissions counseling and extra-mile customer service to prospective students.
• Manage and respond to all freshman CSOM inquiries, including phone calls, emails, text messages, calling campaigns, etc.
• Evaluate academic and other credentials for admission decisions and counseling purposes.

Yield & Enrollment Project Support (15%)

• Identify top students to recommend for merit and need-based scholarships aligned with the enrollment goals of the Carlson School.
• Use data and personal student relationships to inform the Carlson School of important information and impactful recruitment efforts.
• Special projects as assigned by the Carlson School of Management and the Office of Admissions, based on personal strengths or abilities.

Required Qualifications

• BA/BS degree plus at least 2 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree. 
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering the Universityâ™s mission of an inclusive and welcoming University community
• Must have a valid driverâ™s license; must be able to travel regionally or nationally for extended periods
• Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking skills and experience.
• Ability to work independently within established guidelines, make decisions according to policies and procedures, and exercise judgment in recommending procedural changes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in college admissions and recruitment or a closely related unit such as campus tours, orientation, college access community based organizations or other direct work with student outreach and enrollment.
• Event planning or project management experience.
• University of Minnesota experience defined broadly such as former student, graduate, employee, or community member of any campus.
• Demonstrated experience with Technolutions Slate.
