The Admissions Office at Whittier College is seeking an Associate Director of Admission.
Reporting to the Director of Admission, the Associate Director of Admission is an administrative role that provides leadership and direction within the Office of Admission. This position supports the Director in strategic planning and implementation of policies, practices, and procedures to achieve the office’s goals. The Associate Director directly supervises one or two admission officers and plays a key leadership role in overseeing the application review process and coordinating recruitment travel strategy and execution.
The Associate Director of Admission fulfills traditional admission counselor responsibilities, including territory management, application review, serving as counselor of the day, and participating in recruitment travel. This role is critical to advancing the office’s mission and fostering an exceptional experience for prospective students and families.
This position requires significant travel, both locally and nationally, particularly during the fall and spring recruitment seasons. Evening and weekend work is also expected to support recruitment. Flexibility and a willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours are essential.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions of the job
Serve as a proxy for the Director of Admission as assigned
Supervise professional staff (one or two admission officers) and oversee new staff training programs.
Manage the application review process, including establishing review timelines, ensuring consistent evaluation practices, and training staff on holistic application review.
Play a leadership role in shaping recruitment travel strategy, including supporting territory management, providing training for new staff, and offering oversight during peak travel seasons.
Independently manage assigned recruitment territories by planning and executing strategic outreach and yield initiatives. Represent the college at high school visits, college fairs, and other recruitment events, with several weeks of travel expected during the fall and spring seasons.
Support admission communications related to the application review process and other key areas as needed.
Support the planning and execution of admission events for first-year and transfer students, such as fall open houses and spring admitted student events.
Counsel prospective students on the admission process, including applications and financial aid, while supporting on-campus and virtual engagement efforts.
Collaborate with campus departments such as academic offices, athletics, and financial aid to support recruitment and enrollment goals.
Maintain awareness of higher education trends and college policies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Specifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required.
At least 4 years of admission experience required.
Supervisory experience over professional or student staff is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Technolutions Slate or similar admissions CRM systems, with the ability to manage communications, track data, and optimize workflows effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, public speaking and networking skills are essential.
Effective soft skills such as resourcefulness, proactiveness, tenacity, and persistence are essential to the position.
To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess initiative, strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work both independently and as a team with colleagues within their division and across the College.
Ability to demonstrate awareness in issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the embodiment of these values.
Requires the ability to work with and respond to the needs of multiple constituencies including prospective students and families, faculty, staff, and student staff.
A valid driver’s license that meets Real ID, or other acceptable document, that meets requirements for air travel and reliable transportation for work-related travel purposes is required.
