Position Title: Malkiel College Essay and Access Specialist
Boston Latin School is seeking a part-time (24 hrs/week) educator to serve as the Malkiel College Essay and Access Specialist. This role is a school-year position, running from September - June each year. The start date for this candidate is September 1, 2026.
Responsibilities Include:
Provide intensive 1:1 support for seniors working on college essays, supplements, and scholarships with writing intensive applications.
Coordinate the college essay support program in partnership with the college counseling team and English departments
Partner with college counseling team to identify students with higher support needs and target support to them.
Manage a series of important college access and scholarship programs aimed at first generation and underrepresented students including the Posse Foundation Scholarship, Questbridge, Thrive Scholars and the Academy Group.
Teach in-class lessons, after-school workshops, and grade level presentations on college application writing.
Provide occasional support to College Resource Center and School Counseling Programs as needed.
Professional experience teaching English/creative writing or college counseling in an urban setting required.
Ability to read and efficiently give effective, in-depth writing feedback to a high volume of students’ essays
Ability to work effectively with first generation and low income high school students, and familiarity with the unique challenges they face in accessing college.
A genuine desire to work with teenagers and support them in envisioning their educational futures.
Strong interpersonal skills and comfort guiding students to understand and write about their identities.
Ability to manage complex projects independently and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation: Commensurate with skills and experience. This is a partially-benefited position.
