Reporting to an Associate or Assistant Director of Admissions, the application reader will have a key role in the evaluation of applications to two of our summer programs (minimum 15 hours per week; maximum 40 hours per week). The two programs are the following: Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes Stanford Summer Humanities Institute Depending on the program, students may currently be in grades 8 – 11 and will have indicated interest in particular courses within the program. Readers may read for more than one program and may read based on the academic subject area expertise they have.
Position Responsibilities:
Review applications in accordance with review policies and set deadlines
Examine transcripts, recommendations, essays, and other application components
Provide a paragraph summary evaluation for each application read
Check in weekly via email with their reading supervisor
Respond to feedback on evaluations
Meet the expected weekly reading requirement
The reading period for Stanford Summer Humanities Institute will be January 29 - March 15, 2026, with mandatory training on January 27 and 29. The reading period for Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes will be March 13 - April 8, 2026. Mandatory training will take place March 10 and 12. Readers may be hired for Stanford Summer Humanities Institute, Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes, or both. You must inform the hiring team prior to receiving an offer of employment if you will need to take five days or more off during this reading period.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
High proficiency in computer applications
Adaptability at setting up a home office with access to the internet
Ability to problem-solve a variety of issues (including both technology and procedural) independently
Strong skills in critical thinking and analysis are a must
Strong ability in time management and meeting deadlines
Flexibility and adaptability
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in admissions work or secondary education.
Sensitivity to highly confidential information will be required; all review processes, documents, and applicant information is confidential and cannot be shared with anyone outside our Office of Admissions.
All candidates must be physically located within the United States for the entire duration of the assignment in order to be considered for the position.
To avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest, we cannot consider candidates who are parents, guardians, siblings, counselors, or recommenders of an applicant to our programs. Counselors of students in their junior or senior years of high school are also ineligible for this role. You are expected to report any other potential conflicts of interest before you are hired. We will review other potential conflicts of interest on a case-by-case basis.
